Julie Embraces New Year With New Music, New Outlook; Plans First StageIt Online Show

Happy New Year Y’all!

Yes I know, I am a few days late with this letter and I sincerely apologize for that. But you see, for some reason it didn’t feel like the new year for me until about January 3rd. Some part of me was hanging on to 2012 and quite honestly, I’m still not sure what it was I was hanging on to!

I woke up the morning of January 3 and told myself, “Happy New Year, now get up and embrace 2013!”

And that’s exactly what I did! I got out of the bed and began to make plans for all that I want to accomplish this year! I dream big so my list is rather long but I know If I wake up determined every day like I did on the 3rd, I can do it!  Yes, I will have lazy days, we all have those and are allowed those, but I will strive to work hard this year on my music, health & fitness, and just making 2013 the best year I possibly can!

I am beginning the new year with a few events that I am excited to tell you about and I want to invite you to join me at as many of them as you can get to!! Here they are:

  • Jan. 19 – Puckett’s – Franklin, TN – 8:30 p.m. I will be playing an “in the round” show with Billy Yates and Eddie Heinzelman! These guys are amazingly talented and I always have fun sharing the stage with them!
  • Jan. 20 – Watermark Restaurant – Nashville, TN – 6 p.m. The Watermark is hosting a benefit for Louie’s Kids. Tickets include music from Bonnie Bishop and me and also an amazing dinner from one of my favorite restaurants in town! If you are watching the series “Nashville” on ABC, the Watermark was a featured restaurant in it!! It’s awesome and chef Bob Waggoner ROCKS!!!!
  • Jan. 26 – Huntington, TN- 2 p.m. I will be playing an acoustic set before the amazing Marty Stuart!! I am excited and honored to be sharing a stage with Marty!
  • Birthday Bash on StageIt.com

Feb. 1 – StageIt Show – Live Broadcast from Nashville – 9 p.m. CST HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me!!! I have wanted to do a Stage It show for a long time now and thought it would be perfect to do it on my birthday!!  I will be broadcasting live via the Internet on StageIt.com from Nashville! It is only $5.00 to buy a digital ticket and watch online! I hope y’all will join me on my birthday to help me celebrate!! I will be taking requests and will also play a few songs from the new project I’ve been working on! You don’t even have to get out of your pajamas to attend this show! All you have to do is sign into stageit.com and watch it on your computer screen!!! I will also be giving away prizes! For more information or to purchase a ticket, click here.

  • Feb 9 – ALS Benefit Show - Bloomington, MN- 5:30 p.m. This will be the second year I have been honored to take part in this event. I have learned so much about ALS these last couple of years and want to do all I can do to bring more awareness for the disease and raise money to further research for a cure. This is a very special event that I hope you all will come out to if you are in the area! There will be a dinner, a silent auction, and music from me and the band Wolves at the Door! Tickets can be purchased here.

I am working on many more events/shows this coming year. I will add them on Facebook, twitter, and my website as they are confirmed to keep you all in the loop.  And don’t forget, you all know I will have my Fan Appreciation Party in Nashville during CMA Music Fest, so keep that in the back of your mind too!!

New music is of course on the way!!! If you can, please come to my StageIt show so I can play some of it for ya!  I would love to know what you think first! I love you all so very much and value your thoughts and opinions on everything that I do!

I’ve always been very open and honest with you all about my health so I will fill you in on what’s going on in my life.  I found out towards the end of last year that I will now need to begin treatment for my MS.  Up to this point, I was able to manage it with diet/exercise and just taking good care of myself. I will now begin the journey of taking medication to slow down the progression of MS.

After hearing this new news, I was down for a few days and then I began my research on what the best treatment would be for me. More than ever, I am determined to be an ambassador for MS patients all over the United States and the world. I want to use the talents that God has given me and through my music and my story, raise awareness for this disease and also participate in as many benefits as I can for MS. It will be my mission for the rest of my life to continue and support the research that is being done to find a cure for MS and other related auto-immune diseases.

With that said, I CAN STILL play shows and record music! That is a misconception I have faced this past year and would like to make clear right now in my letter. I want to be on the road more than ever and I can do it!  I am too stubborn to let MS keep me off the road and frankly, I am fine to do so. Many of you have asked me why I haven’t been to play in your towns. The honest answer is I’ve been trying to get there but facing some adversity as people think if you are labeled “MS” you can’t play shows. I will continue knocking on those doors until they open and will BE in your towns soon to perform for you! I want to educate everyone out there and let them know that misconception is wrong. Last year, I ran a half-marathon in Napa Valley and the year before that a 31 mile trail race.  I want to be doing what God placed me on this earth to do… playing shows and taking my music everywhere!

“I Can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

I just realized that my letter to you is getting long!  You may want to get to your day or night and I am keeping you here reading!! Haha!

I wanted to mention one final thing I will begin soon. I am going to start a web series for you called ’Ask Julie’! All I want you to do is send me any question you might want me to answer to askjulie@julieroberts.com! I will video my answers at various locations and will post them for you in a web video on a weekly basis. I know lots of you already write to me on my website so I wanted to answer all of your questions through video!! This is gonna be fun!!

In closing, I hope that all of you have a very blessed 2013. Each and everyone of you are a gift to me and I love you so much. I want you to know how much happiness you bring to me and how I continue to be blessed by your support of my dreams. Thank you for being a huge part of my life and my journey. You make me SMILE every single day!!  Happy New Year and I will see you all on the road (and the Internet) real soon!!

Love you,
